The philosophy
Held annually in Greece, the ATHENA International Olive Oil Competition highlights the significance of competing in the age-old homeland of the olive and the birthplace of noble competition which gave humanity the Olympic ideal.
Today, this historic land where the myths and legends of the past are constantly interwoven with modern challenges and accomplishments, ranks 3rd in the world in olive oil production and is by far the leader in per capita consumption. It is the country with the highest percentage of extra virgin olive oil relative to its total production and the country with the highest percentage of arable land dedicated to the cultivation of the olive tree. In Greece, when someone says “oil” they mean olive oil. What better place than this to organize an international olive oil competition?
